POOLE rowing club enjoyed home success in the town's regatta by upstaging the championship leaders BTC in the Junior Senior Fours event.

Matt Sewell, Phil Pickering, Pete Daiken, Mike Barron (stk) Matt Jacobs (cox) together for the first time this season, took full advantage of BTC's misfortune of seat damage at the turn to win by half a length after matching them stroke for stroke throughout the race on Poole Park lake.

More excitement for the home fans came in the Veteran Fours when Poole pushed Southampton's Mark Padwick, Colin Pearce, Alan Noice, Kirk Martin (stk) Jane Saunders (cox) to within half a length in a closely contested race.

Bournemouth University had their supporters cheering too when, racing for the first time this season, they dominated both the Novice events with Mike Harmes, Tom White, Rob Schfield, Mike Paddick (stk) Penny Zadeh(cox) winning the men's final by three lengths from Ryde.

And the university's ladies - Joe Armstrong, Laura Ellis, Susanne Guenther, Vicky Hoban-Pegges (stk) Milly Ingham (cox) - proved to be too strong for Coalporters and Southampton in the ladies final.

Christchurch's Mike Kelly and Mike Ryan(stk), meanwhile, notched up their second championship point in the Junior Pairs.
